Country singer Kacey Musgraves has infuriated MAGA after asking her fans to help the children of “unfairly” deported immigrants during a live performance.
The eight-time Grammy winner played the opening night of her new “Middle of Nowhere” tour at Chicago’s United Center on Friday, which was also her 38th birthday.
During the show, the singer told the audience that her birthday wish was for fans to donate to the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights, a Chicago-based nonprofit.
“It’s a wonderful organization, and they help give aid—legal aid—and money to children whose parents have been deported unfairly,” Musgraves said.
The singer added, “It’s not a political thing. It’s just, these kids need help.”
The audience cheered wildly as she noted that any money, even as little as 50 cents, donated “would mean a lot to me, and if you don’t want to, that’s totally fine too.”
Federal sources told Fox News this month that ICE agents made around 51,000 immigration arrests in July, the highest monthly arrest total in the agency’s history. The figure tops the previous record of roughly 43,000 in June.
Her comments soon spread across MAGA online. Fox News host Tomi Lahren shared the video of Musgrave’s request on Sunday, and asked, “What is an unfair deportation?” The post sparked almost 300 comments at time of publication.
Newsmax host Rob Schmitt posted on X, “Nowhere is safe from libtards. Not even country music.”
Vince Langman, a MAGA influencer with over 560k followers, also posted Friday’s footage two days later, stating, “How about donating money the help kids who’s parents have been killed by illegal immigrants! What happened to the country music industry?”
Another MAGA account, sharing a Fox News post on Musgrave’s request, claimed the singer is worth $15 million, and said, “If she cares that much, she can fund it herself and let them live in one of her multi-million-dollar mansions.”
Others called out Musgraves as a “hypocrite,” while others were enraged at a “disco balls” prop used in her show that appeared to emulate male genitalia.
The Daily Beast has contacted the White House and reps for Musgraves for comment.
Musgraves has a history of trolling Donald Trump and his immigration policies. She previously sold items from her own wardrobe on Depop in April, with all proceeds going towards the Young Center.
The following month, she also invited three teenage brothers, Antonio, Caleb and Joshua Gámez-Cuéllar, who play in a high school mariachi band, to play as the opening act at three of her Texas shows, weeks after their family was released from ICE custody.
In April, after the president posted, and then deleted, a controversial AI image of himself as Jesus healing the sick, Musgraves took the opportunity to post a parody of Trump’s post on her X account, with country icon Dolly Parton as Jesus, healing Musgraves.
In August 2020, Musgraves shared a post, on a rainbow background, that read “If you love an LGBTQ+ person and you’re planning on voting for Donald Trump in November, that’s an act of violence against them,” on X, adding, “To each their own but know what your vote means.
Following mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, in 2019, Musgraves weighed in on the Second Amendment, tagging Trump on X. “For a man who clearly loves being well-liked, it’s indescribably mind-numbing to see him blatantly and murderously ignore doing ONE THING that would not only make people happy but would SAVE PEOPLE’S LIVES.”
She added, “True leaders don’t stand back and watch the world burn.”
