Don’t expect Charlotte or Miranda to be texting Samantha anytime soon—despite what old school Sex and the City fans might desperately crave.
In an interview with Attitude Magazine, And Just Like That stars Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon weighed in on whether their characters would lean on Samantha (Kim Cattrall) in the latest season. Their answer? Absolutely not.
Davis, who plays Charlotte, explained that she never saw a strong emotional bond between her character and Samantha in the original series.
“Even in the past, I don’t feel like Charlotte really relied on Samantha that much for support,” Davis explained. “In the beginning especially, sometimes I have these funny episodes, that I look back on where I’m taking care of Samantha. [It’s] fascinating to me because I don’t think Charlotte relied on Samantha that much, so I don’t think she would reach out to her now.”
“But maybe she’d be friendly to her now, I don’t think she has any particular problems with her as such,” she added.

However, Nixon just doesn’t think Miranda would be texting Samantha like Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) has been seen doing in the spinoff show, not even for something important, like how Miranda feels about exploring her sexuality—a significant plot point in the show’s third season.
“No, I don’t hope that Miranda and Samantha are texting this season, and I don’t think she is looking for Samantha for support when it comes to her sexuality,” Nixon said.
Fans aren’t buying their response, accusing the actresses of downplaying Samantha’s importance in the friend group just because they reportedly don’t get along with her actress, Cattrall.
A 2004 report by The Telegraph suggested that the fallout between the cast occurred after Parker got a producing credit on the Sex and the City movie, which prompted Cattrall to try and negotiate for a higher salary. Her request for more money caused tension amongst the leading ladies, getting so bad at one point that “[they] wouldn’t even sit with [Cattrall] at mealtimes.”
Notably, Cattrall is the only one out of the four women who decided not to return for the sequel series, though she made a short cameo at the end of Season 2.
“Personally, I think it’s insane to downplay the relationships any of the characters had with Sam… [She] was a CRUCIAL part of the show,” one person wrote on Reddit.
In particular, fans seem to disagree with Nixon’s answer, especially given that Samantha dated a woman in the original show for a while.
“The FIRST person that Miranda would have come out to would have been the literal bisexual: Samantha,” a TikToker pointed out.
Regardless of whether Charlotte and Miranda are still besties with Samantha in the show, fans just want to make sure they put some respect on her name.
