BLESS YOUR HEART

“Who’s gonna tell her?” actor Carrie Coon asked after McCain said President Trump’s salute to a pediatric cancer patient made her cry.

Meghan McCain is definitely watching Season 3 of The White Lotus.

The former View host-turned-podcaster used a meme of the HBO show’s Trump-supporting character (played by Leslie Bibb) to clap back at one of its stars, Carrie Coon, a full two days later.

Coon, who plays Laurie in the new season, called out McCain on X earlier in the week for praising Donald Trump’s “beautiful” nod to a child brain cancer patient, 13-year-old cancer survivor Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel, during his address to Congress.

“This is the first time I can remember crying during a state of the union,” McCain wrote to X. “Thank you President Trump. This is so beautiful. Anyone who has been impacted by brain cancer knows how special this is.” Her father, former U.S. senator John McCain, died of brain cancer in 2018.

“Who’s gonna tell her?” Coon quote-tweeted McCain, alluding to McCain’s apparent ignorance to the fact Trump and his right-hand man Elon Musk had just cut government funds for pediatric cancer research and treatment.

McCain’s belated response came in the form of the “bless your heart” smile Bibb’s character Kate shows her friends when they ask her directly if she voted for Trump. After a long pause, she replies, “Are we really gonna talk about Trump tonight?”

Despite the self-satisfied expression communicated with the cringey meme, X commenters still piled on McCain for giving Trump a pass.

Wrote one, replying to Coon’s question, “You mean the part how Trump called her dad a loser for being a POW or that Trump is killing the medical funding that treated her dad’s cancer?”

Another addressed McCain directly, “I was crying too, because Trump and Musk have cut funding for NIH and cancer research,” adding, “NIH is the most important biomedical research institution in the world.”

On Friday, Trump called for the resignations of MSNBC hosts Nicole Wallace and Rachel Maddow, who both painted the teenage patient’s appearance at the Congress address as nothing more than a stunt by the president.

“It is a fact that Trump has slashed cancer research. It’s a fact, by eliminating NIH and by all the cuts, pediatric cancer trials are halted,” Wallace said on-air, noting that DJ “likely benefited from some sort of cancer research.”
