Adding a signature scent to your daily routine is meant to stir up a certain energy. Whether you’re drawn to naturally sweeter scents to match your soft and gooey insides or like a more hardened musk that reflects all of the trials and tribulations that made you into who you are today, the scents we’re attracted to—and want to wear—can reveal so much about us.
You might have seen the term “pheromone perfume” floating around the beauty zeitgeist lately, but what does that actually mean? And is it possible to actually attract a lover to you based on the scent you’re emitting out into the ether? Well, like most scientific theories, it turns out the findings are mixed.
“A pheromone is a chemical substance produced and released into the environment by an animal, especially a mammal or an insect, affecting the behavior or physiology of others of its species,” explains perfumer Darryl Do of Delbia Do Fragrances. “The goal [of pheromone perfumes is] to create a perfume that acts like a pheromone in the hopes of attracting a recipient. This exists in the animal kingdom, specifically mammals.” However, scientists are still inconclusive about whether or not human mammals actually possess and emit pheromones in natural body odors through sweat and other emissions.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t have a little fun playing with “pheromone” and skin scent perfumes. We rounded up a few of the top giftable, sultry, and seductive perfumes on the market right now that are meant to tantalize. Whether that means it’s a scent that gets you going or a scent your partner can’t get enough of, we’ll let you decide what a pheromone perfume means to you.
I mean, come on, “more sex” is in the name here. This scent has notes of black pepper oil, leather accord, and musk for a spicy and sultry scent that has an overall woodsy vibe. The moonstone crystal is known for symbolizing the divine feminine energy and this scent from Phlur is no different. It features notes of green apple, pomegranate, pineapple and orange, black currant, jasmine, and geranium for an ethereal fruity yet floral scent.
If feeling clean makes you feel sexy (*raises hand*), then this is the scent for you. I’ve never been drawn to a scent so quickly before, and I’m usually someone who finds most fragrances overwhelming. According to the brand, this perfume was engineered to create an “uplifting and energized mindset,” which is honestly a must if you’re out in the dating world or hoping to attract someone into your orbit. The scent comes from a blend of tiare flower and jasmine with soft magnolia petals, violet leaves, green bamboo, and palm fronds.
While not as sophisticated as our other picks, this pheromone perfume went viral on TikTok in 2024, with content creators giving the spray glowing reviews. According to the brand, wearing the long-wearing (and Gen-Z loved) fragrance is like “... Cupid dropped a love bomb to maximize your riz and vigor.”
The secret to feeling sultry all day long? A perfume that’s 20 to 30 percet concentrated, like this bottle from Merit. That means, the fragrance will last anywhere from eight to 12 hours after you apply it. This fragrance is more on the sweeter side with notes of bergamot, pear, ambrette, and vanilla.
Fancy yourself a witch? Cast your spell on your potential mate with this witchy perfume from Vyrao that’s created with plant and flower remedies (aka spells!). There are notes of thorny rose, nutmeg, cinnamon and black pepper with grounding patchouli, and frankincense to create an alluring, musky, and sensual fragrance.
Pure Instinct’s affordable Pheromone Infused Essential Oil Perfume was one of the first pheromone fragrances to go viral on social media. The roll-on fragrance apparently has helped countless users earn more tips at work, get pets to like them, and revive romance in their partnerships.
