A suspected gunman who embarked on a shooting rampage in an office building in Manhattan has died after the brazen incident that rocked New York on Monday.

Footage shows a man carrying an M4 assault rifle walking into the building between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue. The skyscraper houses companies including the National Football League and global investment firm Blackstone.

Four people were shot dead, including NYPD police officer Didarul Islam, 36, and one person remains in a critical but stable condition. The suspect, who police have identified as Shane Tamura, 27, of Nevada, took his own life with a gunshot to the chest, authorities said.

Speaking at a late-night press conference on Monday, Tisch said the suspect had left a black BMW double-parked on Park Avenue, and security camera footage showed him enter the building carrying the rifle.

Once inside he immediately opened fire on an NYPD officer. Tisch said the suspect also shot a woman who was covering behind a pillar and sprayed the lobby with gunfire.

At the elevator bank, the suspect shot a security guard and another man in the lobby before taking the elevator to the 33rd floor, which is the floor that houses Rudin Management, one of the oldest real estate firms in New York.

While on that floor, he fired off more rounds, killing one person before shooting himself in the chest.

Police discovered a rifle case, a revolver, magazines, and ammunition in the suspect’s car. They believe the gunman acted alone and that there was no active threat to the public.
